Check for number of arguments instead of a NULL argument. · 7b870da0
      Pavan Balaji authored
Thanks to Masamichi Takagi @ NEC, Japan for reporting the error and
suggesting the patch. The cached PUTs array was not reinitialized to
NULL values after the first time they were sent upstream and cleared.
So the next time we push them upstream, they contained garbage data
causing segfaults. This patch looks for the number of arguments
rather than a NULL argument as a termination detector.

Cleanup multiple aspects of the is_local lookup. · 885bf732
      Pavan Balaji authored
      1. Cleanup check for local IPs. We check to see if the host IP
matches that of the list of local IP addresses. If it does, it's a
      local host.
      2. Do not try to detect remotely accessible nodes. Our logic for
identifying whether a node is remotely accessible is quite primitive
and hacky. It doesn't serve any real purpose either. This patch
      deletes that code.
      3. Cleanup the is_local lookup function. If getifaddrs and inet_ntop
are available, try to detect local processes. If they aren't there,
simply return non-local. In this case, the launcher will fall back to
using a remote launch even for local processes. Bad, but workable.
      4. Make the hostname lookups more comprehensive, by matching the local
hostname and the IP address the local hostname resolves to as well.
This works well when the /etc/hosts file contains an IP address match
that is not a part of the network addresses. In this case, the
hostname IP lookup will give that IP address, but it will not match
any of the local network IP addresses.

Remove caching wrapper for gethostname. · d1a02341
      Pavan Balaji authored
This was added for terrible systems that rely on a slow DNS server to
look up the local hostname. Most OSs do a much better job setting
local host names in the local /etc/hosts file today. Even if they
don't, we no longer do a large number of lookups anymore, so this
      should not be a problem.

      subdir-objects and top_srcdir/top_builddir conflict · 89958058
      Rob Latham authored
After adding the subdir-objects automake option, the autotools will try
to create a directory called literally '$(top_srcdir)'/path/to/source
to store .Plo files. with subdir-objects option, the top_srcdir and
top_builddir variables are no longer needed (except in AM_CPPFLAGS and
      linker commands).
*finally* gets hydra building again after yesterday's attempt to make
      automake-1.14 happy

      automake subdir-object mode needs check for -c -o · 59cbc846
      Rob Latham authored
Older automake versions (at least 1.13.1) will complain if we asked for subdir
mode and we did not verify that both -c and -o flags work (AM_PROG_CC_C_O)

      some AM_INIT_AUTOMAKE invocations were missing subdir-objects · bf9f8ea8
      Rob Latham authored
automake-1.14 will carp if the subdir-objects option is missing and it thinks
you should have specified this option, and since we treat warnings as errors we
need to specify this option. MPICH requires a pretty new version of automake,
so it's doubtful we'll ever encounter the 1999-era automake that does not
      understand 'subdir-objects'

We slow down consecutive ssh connections to the same host to avoid the
ssh server falling over. This patch allows the user to control how
many ssh connections we allow before throttling.

Fix for missing test that getsid requires a declaration. · e2148061
      William Gropp authored
Observed that while there was a "NEEDS_DECL" for getsid in the
pm/util programs, there was no test for this case (getsid is not
defined by default and requires the correct level of XOPEN_SOURCE).
Also removed now extraneous tests from remshell subconfigure.
