Use automake+libtool instead of simplemake+createshlib.  Parallel make
now works for real, and shared library creation should be more robust on
more platforms.  "make dist" now works, modulo building the documentation,
although for boring reasons we can't actually use it for the final
distribution tarball generation.

This is a massive change and without a doubt has some bugs in it.  We'll
work through them as we find them.

[svn-r9122] fixed typo introduced in r9104 which prevents the PG compiler from linking any MPI executable.

[svn-r9115] bugfix for the bug introduced in r8872 that Searchable preview drawable were not highlighted correctly.  The fix is to make Drawable.drawSearchableOnViewport as abstract interface and implement accordingly in Primitive,Shadow,Composite.

the upper-level code does not care about the error, it should assert
for its success value.

[svn-r9103] In r9099, the impl functions returned NULL for the empty group.  This changeset has the impl functions return a pointer to the object referenced by the built-in MPI_GROUP_EMPTY handle for the empty group.
