To compile "cp" utility with mpi support for tracing:

<probably want to boost the file limit in darshan.h first>

tar -xvzf coreutils-6.9.tar.gz
cd coreutils-6.9
patch -p1 < ../99_cu_futimens.patch
patch -p1 < ../coreutils-cp-mpi.patch
./configure CC=/home/pcarns/working/darshan/trunk/build/compilers/mpicc-trace-pcarns
make 

result is in src/cp

example to collect data:
mkdir /tmp/bin
src/cp /usr/bin/* /tmp/bin/
